A BOYS football team from Winterfold Schoolk in Chaddesley Corbett secured an historic victory in the annual Matty Thacker Football Tournament, writes Holly Clement.
Winterfold U11 Boys notched up their first-ever win in the 15-year history of the competition.
The remarkable victory marked a milestone achievement for the school.
The Matty Thacker Football Tournament pays homage to the late student, Matty Thacker, who lost his life in a car crash in 2007.
The ‘Matty Thacker Shield’ is hosted every year by Winterfold School and is dedicated to honouring his memory.
James Brinkley, head of boy’s games, said: “This is an important day in Winterfold’s sporting calendar.
“Matty’s mother came along to watch and whatever she said to the boys after their second match clearly inspired them as they went on to play some superb football.
“The team only conceded one goal in all seven of their matches.”
