Heritage Open Day at St Johns Church Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove Editorial 9th Aug, 2023   0

AN HISTORIC Bromsgrove church will host an open day to showcase the heritage of the landmark building while offering a day of exciting activities for visitors.

St John’s Church Heritage Open Day on September 16 will be hosted by the Friends of St Johns charity in a bid to raise much needed funds to help secure the future of the church, following its placement on the English Heritage at risk register.

During the event on Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, visitors will be greeted with a coffee and cake concert from 10.30am with an organ recital by Oliver Neale.

From 12 noon the Bell Tower will be open for visitors to try their hand at bell ringing and enjoy the views from the top of the tower.

Later in the afternoon, the Bromsgrove Society book stall will be open to browse and read local information while the church historian, Simon Henderson, will be on hand to chat about the church’s heritage.

A full presentation on the state of the church and its listing as an at risk building will detail the Save our Spire campaign and explain the extent of the funding needed to restore the church.

There will be a creative corner with flower displays and paper stained glass crafting which will offer fun for all ages.

The ever popular key hunt where visitors search for the vicars old keys returns.

A disco is also being planned in the church hall and there will be refreshments available after the concert and throughout the afternoon.

The church’s resident organist Steve will also let attendees have a go on the organ and take a look at the pipes.
