A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE is set to call at Barnt Green this weekend when hauling an excursion to a preserved railway in Somerset, writes Neil Gordon.

It is expected that Castle Class locomotive 7029 Clun Castle will work Vintage Train’s ‘Whistling Ghost’ on Saturday, May 31, from Birmingham New Street to the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard.

The train is set to pick-up passengers at Barnt Green at 08.30am, before passing through Bromsgrove at 8.37am.

Upon arrival at Bishops Lydeard it is expected that steam locomotives 7812 Erlestoke Manor and 7828 Odney Manor will haul the train along the West Somerset Railway to Minehead.

The train departs Bishops Lydeard behind Clun Castle at 6.40pm and passes non-stop through Bromsgrove at 10.10pm, before calling back at Barnt Green at 10.20pm.

A class 37 diesel locomotive will be on the rear of the train throughout to provide assistance.
