HELPERS are needed to help prepare the boxes for this year’s Operation Christmas Child being organised by Rosemary Aveyard and church helpers from Barnt Green Parish Centre.

People are being urged to go along to the centre between 10am and 4pm for ‘Super Shoe Box Saturday’ on October 21.

Volunteers will be tasked with packing the gifts into boxes and tea, coffee and cake will be available to raise funds for transporting the boxes.

Rosemary told The Standard: “Super Shoe Box Saturday was a wonderful day last year with lots of helpers and support from the community.

“Anyone is welcome to come and help to fill the boxes, we want as many people as possible to come and join us.”

Last year St Andrew’s Church and St Andrew’s School sent more than 300 boxes between them.

Gifts for the boxes throughout the year but more are always welcome.

Rosemary added: “I went with Operation Christmas Child in May to deliver the boxes and saw the joy in childrens’ eyes.

“They had never received anything in their lives and it was an amazing experience.

“Any child in need was invited. It is a Christian Charity but all children of any faith or none who was in need was invited.

“There is an even greater need as Operation Christmas Child hopes to deliver shoe boxes to children in refugee camps.”
