Heart safe charity provides defibrillators to Bromsgrove Baptist Church and town nursery

HEART safe campaigners Rob and Maggie Underwood were in Bromsgrove to help install two more defibrillators that their charity had helped secure.

The pair started Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation after their son and daughter died from rare heart conditions.

They lost their third child Carrick this time last year and Friday was the anniversary of his death, making the installations very poignant.

The first defibrillator was put in Kirsty’s Little Treasures nursery where staff, parents and children had raised £400 towards the cost of the life-saving device. The nursery is continuing to help support the course.

The second defib was put on the wall at the entrance of the Baptist Church which also has the Bromsgrove Youth and Community Hub in the basement of its building.

Rob thanked Sam from Bromsgrove-based SJB Electrical who installed the cabinets free of charge so the devices could be available 24/7 and he has agreed to install others across the district.

A fortnight ago, Rob and Maggie welcomed the Government’s announcement that CPR would be taught in all secondary schools in England from 2020, which the pair had extensively campaigned for.

They have also lobbied for a law to be brought in making it mandatory for all buildings have to have a defibrillator, in the same way they have to have fire extinguishers.

The second reading of the Defibrillators (availability) Bill takes place on January 25.

Rob and Maggie are urging everyone to contact their MP to get them to vote in favour of it.

Rob added: “What is the point of teaching all secondary school students CPR and life-saving skills if we don’t have the defibrillators.”
