Hanbury shooting activities business celebrates 25 years

Bromsgrove Editorial 6th Oct, 2018   0

A HANBURY shooting activities business is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

It all started when Mark Treverton had been a financial advisor for 22 years and went on a corporate ‘jolly’ in 1993 which introduced him to the joys of laser clay pigeon shooting.

Mark admits he was not the best at the sport on his first outing but he saw the potential to setting up his own laser clay business.

Originally trading as Marksman Leisure, the business started as a mobile enterprise taking laser clay shooting to locations across the UK, providing corporate entertainment.

Some years later the business took over the Oaklands Centre in Hanbury, enabling Mr Treverton to develop his portfolio of shooting activities, which included archery and real clay shooting.

In addition to providing corporate entertainment activities the centre started to attract members of the public, keen to learn a new sport or develop their existing shooting skills.

Another corporate ‘jolly’ in 2003 at Quasar in Birmingham introduced Mark to laser quest and he subsequently became one of the first people in the UK to offer outdoor laser tag, at the woodland setting in Hanbury.

This created a new business opportunity, providing outdoor entertainment for children’s parties.

Despite turning 65 earlier this year, Mr Treverton has no intention of retiring.

As a member of the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) and a registered Clay Pigeon Shooting Association (CPSA) safety officer, he has earned his reputation for delivering first class shooting activities with fun firmly on the agenda.

Mark said: “I love my job and am passionate about what I do.

“Becoming self employed was the best thing I’ve ever done.

“Why would I want to stop doing something that is so much fun?”

Anyone booking this month for an activity to be taken by the end of the year will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a clay pigeon shoot worth £250 for four people.
