HANBURY First School has been inviting families to play their part in its ‘World War One Week’ by asking them to post a poppy on a Remembrance Wall, writes Demi Andrews.

The project reflects on the sacrifices made by others, including their own brave ‘school soldiers’, ex-pupils of the school.

A host of activities have been held throughout the week, culminating in ‘Red, White and Blue Day’ and a special Remembrance Assembly today.

The local community is also invited to remember those they know who served and lost their lives, by posting a poppy on the Remembrance Wall, at the main school gate.

Michelle Darby, the school’s history coordinator, said: “We want to give everyone the opportunity to remember those who have sacrificed so much for all of us, including those who lived in the local community.”
