BROMSGROVE have recently received a visit from its French twinned town of Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin, in what the Bromsgrove officials call an attempt to build friendships and cultural links, writes Rafi Khan.
This year it was Bromgrove’s turn to host the French guests and the party from Normandy arrived by coach on the Friday, eager to experience their hometown’s twin.
They were welcomed by Bromsgrove’s newest district council chairman, councillor Sam Evans and the chairman of Bromsgrove International Link, Roger Westwood.
The rest of that Friday was spent with their caring hosts in their own homes.
This year’s visit coincided with the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and in recognition of this commemoration, a visit to popular wartime city Coventry was arranged.
The trip to the City of Culture took place on the Saturday that included a guided tour around both the new and old cathedrals focusing on recognising the contribution that was made by so many people 80 years ago.
The evening was spent dining at Barnt Green Social Club, a buffet with a mixture of cultural foods.
Due to the French having less holiday time than us, they departed on the Sunday morning for the cross-channel ferry at Portsmouth so they could be prepared for the start of school and work that Monday.
The time of this visit was spent making comparisons of life between our two countries and it was hardly suprising there are more similarities than differences.
Bromsgrove’s group are planning to visit St Sauveur Lendelin in 2026.
New members are always welcome to join BIL which also organize a number of social events throughout the town’s action filled; jam-packed year.
