Gronau visit to Bromsgrove to toast 40 years of town-twinning

BROMSGROVE is set to celebrate 40 years of being Gronau’s twin town with a visit from its councillors.

The visit, arranged by Bromsgrove International Link (formerly Bromsgrove and District Twinning Association), will see seven councillors and officers from the German town visiting the area between October 20 and 23.

Judith Stephenson, President of Bromsgrove International Link, commented: “We are delighted to host this visit from our friends in Gronau.

“Over the past 42 years, there have been regular visits between our two towns organised by Bromsgrove International Link, and many Bromsgrovians have enjoyed some typical German hospitality.

“They then have been able to reciprocate when our German friends came to Bromsgrove.”

During their visit, the Gronau representatives will enjoy a lunch hosted by Bromsgrove District Council Chairman Coun Rod Laight and Council Leader Coun Karen May, a dinner arranged by Bromsgrove International Link and a concert to be held at St John’s Church on October 22.

The twinning link between the two towns was initiated in 1980 by their respective local choirs, but the 40th anniversary celebrations were delayed because of Covid restrictions.

Coun Laight, Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, added: “We are happy to support this visit.

“Many of our citizens have established long-lasting relationships with their hosts in Gronau, and we look forward to many years of continued friendship on both a council-to-council and an individual basis.”
