COMMUNITY heroes from Fairfield Village Community Association (FVCA) will be armed with litter pickers and bags to clean up their area.
Every month for the past few years FVCA members have ensured the village is clear of discarded rubbish, such as bags of dog waste, empty cans and spirit bottles, half-full paint tins, car bumpers, cigarette stubs and green waste.
The FVCA says discarded rubbish blights the beautiful country landscape, pollutes the earth and can prove deadly if accidentally eaten by livestock and wildlife.
The association’s Spring Clean will be on April 13 when, as well as litter-picking in roads and recreations areas, volunteers will wash signs and weed the village’s planters.
Litter-picks on the second Saturday of each month, enable the community to come together, build pride in where they live and ensure the environment is welcoming for residents and visitors.
The association’s slogan is ‘Your Home, Your Village, Your Community’, and the litter-picking has also helped people develop friendships.
Fairfield Spring Clean meets outside the Village Hall on Stourbridge Road at 10.30am. Children need to be accompanied by an adult. Litter-picking equipment will be provided.
