Grant funding on offer to launch inclusive activities and community events

CREATIVES in Bromsgrove can apply for small grants to bring the area’s redundant and unusual spaces back to life, as part of the Cultural Compact’s ReNew project.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available as part of the North East Worcestershire Cultural Compact ReNew scheme, which aims to encourage people to organise inclusive activities and events to attract visitors and boost community engagement.

Bromsgrove District Council are supporting the ReNEW project which was awarded Cultural Compact status by Arts Council England in 2022.

There will be an information event about the opportunity to apply for grants in November, where interested parties can find out more and talk to like-minded people about their ideas.

Partners including Friends of St Johns, Bromsgrove Arts Alive, Bromsgrove Indy Club, HOW College, Young Solutions and Avoncroft Museum make up ReNEW

Council leader, Karen May said: “Bromsgrove is a really beautiful area to live and by working with our partners we can create an even bigger sense of pride in the place that we live, work and visit.

“These grants are for our residents and how they are spent will be shaped by our residents too and this is wonderful as it means we will get it right.

“We all have our stories and experiences about the place where we were born or live so it’s even better that our histories will shape and create activities and events for our residents in spaces which would just lie dormant otherwise.”

There is only a limited amount of cash and each application will be judged on its strength. Every group applying must have a bank account and individuals must be self-employed.

ReNEW chair Jane Earl said: “There are so many events and creative projects happening all around us and by harnessing this amazing energy and hard work, through ReNEW we make them bigger and better and more accessible.

“While ReNEW is at the start of its journey we have already seen success such as the Heritage Open Days, our new rebrand and soon the grants project will be up and running.

“I look forward to watching ReNEW flourish and the collaborative going from strength to strength.”

Details on the information evening will be released soon.
