AN event to remember to the genocide at Srebrenica 24 years ago is to be held for the people of Bromsgrove and Redditch this coming Sunday, June 30.

The massacre happened during the Balkan War when 8,372 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in Srebrenica were murdered on account of their Islamic faith.

Now people of all faiths and none are invited to the memorial which is at St John’s Church on Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove from 6pm to 7pm.

Helal Shahid, chair of Remembering Srebrenica Worcestershire Chapter said: “24 years after the genocide, we are determined not only to remember the victims of Srebrenica, but to honour their memories by taking positive action to build better communities.”

The Rev Raymond Khan added: “This has been a year where once again we have sadly witnessed continuing acts of terrorism and hate crimes, and so the Muslim and Christian Community have come together to pray and remember, along with those of other faiths and no faith.”
