Funeral date and special tribute revealed for much-loved 'Flower Lady of Bromsgrove' Kelly Godfrey

THE FUNERAL of much-loved Bromsgrove woman Kelly Godfrey will take place on Friday, June 22.

The service will be at midday at St John’s Church and, prior to that, there will be a special get-together at 11.30am at the Happy Bunch flower stall, outside the Miller and Carter pub on the Birmingham Road. Afterwards there will be a burial at the North Bromsgrove Cemetery.

Kelly started her business 20 years ago, originally as Marlbrook Flowers, but it was relaunched about four years ago as ‘The Happy Bunch’ as it was felt it was the perfect name for the business.

As well as the flowers, there is also a display featuring the faces of regular customers and local business owners who helped each other out and fostered a real sense of community.

At The Happy Bunch on the day, the specially created floral tribute will be placed on the coffin as Kelly, who was 42 and passed away last month, embarks on her final journey.

The flower ‘spray’ which will be used for Kelly’s funeral will be exactly the same one used at her mum’s funeral last year.

Kel Kelly, one of the people organising the day, said: “Everyone knew Kelly – she was known as ‘The Flower Lady of Bromsgrove’ and the display of customers and businesses shows the kind-hearted person she was.

“It was felt for the cortege to meet there was very fitting and poignant as her dad wanted it to start at the place where she had most of her happy memories.

“She loved what she did and local businesses helping each other out is what it is all about.”

He thanked the staff at M&B and Miller and Carter which run the pub for all their help and support they had given.

Those going to the funeral should dress in casual wear and bright colours as, the organisers say, it is what Kelly would have wanted.

The Happy Bunch will be run in Kelly’s memory by her friends Kelly Graham and Lucy Perkins.
