THE FAMILY of much-loved former teacher, author and artist Michael Richardson said they had been touched by people’s generosity after his funeral collection raised almost £1,000 for Rubery In Bloom.

Michael, who passed away at the age of 85 after a leukaemia battle, taught art at Blessed Humphrey Middlemore in Harborne, Handsworth Wood Boys School and Lordswood Girls School. When he retired he put his talents towards writing novels and painting.

Michael’s funeral took place at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Leach Green Lane, Rednal, and, after a short service at Lodge Hill Crematorium, there was a wake at Hillscourt, Rose Hill.

His daughter Emma Clarke said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community.”
