REFUGEES have been helped out in style after a discount fashion show at Bromsgrove Methodist Centre raised over £1,200 for a support group.

The event, organised by Bromsgrove and Redditch Welcomes Refugees (BRWR), and saw seven volunteer models, including three Ukrainian refugees, take to the catwalk to showcase women’s outfits from high street retailers.

The show attracted 140 and after the modelling, the clothes were sold at discounts of up to 75 per cent.

The BRWR group is comprised of volunteers offering practical and financial aid to around 30 local refugee families from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Their services offer support to refugees in Redditch and Bromsgrove, helping them to create new lives after fleeing their war-torn home countries.

Yevgenia, a young mum whose home is in Kyiv, modelled some of the outfits.

She said: “I was very comfortable. All people were friendly and very kind.

“I am happy about this support. I had good emotions and did it with pleasure. I am very worried about my home. I do not know what will happen.”

BRWR chair Yvonne Rendell added: “The event went very well indeed, a lot of people were happy to come along, enjoy themselves, do something a little bit different and also help us continue the important work we do supporting our refugees.

“We’re very grateful to all the models who took part, especially our three Ukrainian models.

“Thanks also to everyone who organised and supported the event.”
