Frankley councillor launches campaign to prevent changes to 27 bus route

A CAMPAIGN to prevent the reduction in service of the 27 bus route from Cofton Hackett to Frankley is being put forward by a local councillor.

Independent Birmingham City Councillor, Simon Morrall is calling for people relying on the service to email him so he can bring forward users views at a proposed meeting with National Express.

The reduction in the service will mean the bus will terminate in Frankley and no longer travel through Rubery into Longbridge.

The change, due to come into effect on November 5, comes with sweeping alterations to various services from the bus operator, who have advised people travelling between Frankley and Cofton Hackett to use other services.

Regarding the changes, Ed Rickard, network director for National Express, said: “We know that our bus services are vital lifelines for many customers and communities and we have been working closely with Transport for West Midlands to continue protecting as many services as possible across the region.

“In common with bus operators nationwide, we are seeing changes to travel patterns due to a number of lifestyle changes, including more people working from home and shopping online.

“This means we have to look at our network to ensure we can maintain the best bus coverage for the people of the West Midlands.

“While some routes may operate slightly differently to now, we’ve worked with Transport for West Midlands to ensure connections and alternatives remain in place.”

“Our priority is to continue to build on the positive steps we are taking to improve the reliability of our services and to keep fares low.”

The councillor has previously been successful in his 2019 campaign to save the 61 bus service in Frankley and helped extend the 27 service after fears the 49 route would be cut.

Coun Morrall has been approached for comment.
