A WEST Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic is taking on an incredible month-long running challenge in memory of a much-loved colleague, one year on from his passing.
Tactical Incident Commander, Tim Atherton, who has been based at the Hollymoor Hub in Rubery, is completing ten 5km runs throughout March to raise money for Cancer Research UK, in tribute to his former crew partner and close friend, Tom McCann.
Tom dedicated 21 years to West Midlands Ambulance Service, working across Birmingham, including also the Hollymoor Hub, and leaving a lasting impact on colleagues, patients and the wider community. He sadly passed away last year following a battle with cancer.
Speaking about the challenge, Tim said: “Tom was not just my crew partner, he was a great friend and my ‘work dad’.
“He was one of the kindest people you could meet – a true gentleman whose warmth, humour and compassion left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.
“I feel very lucky to have worked alongside him, which is why I wanted to take on this challenge in his memory.”
Funds raised will go towards vital research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, helping to save and improve lives across the UK.
