A FORMER LMS steam locomotive is set to call at Barnt Green and Worcestershire Parkway this weekend when it heads to Wales, writes Neil Gordon.
Jubilee Class locomotive number 45556, named Bahamas, will haul Vintage Train’s ‘Cathedrals Express’ to Swansea on Saturday (July 5) to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the line opening between Chepstow and Swansea.
The train departs from Birmingham New Street station before picking-up at Barnt Green at 8.33am and Worcestershire Parkway at 8.53am on the outward leg.
The return journey sees the train set-down at Worcestershire Parkway at 8.36pm and Barnt Green at 9.16pm.
Arrival in Swansea is 12.47pm for around a four-hour stay, before departing back to Birmingham at 4.54pm.
A diesel locomotive will be providing assistance on the rear of the train throughout.
A spokesperson for Vintage Trains said: “There are around 30 tickets remaining for this tour and our sales office is open until 4pm today (July 4). “Passengers can also buy tickets on the day from the train manager in coach Z.”
