Former King George V pub in Longbridge set to be turned into 13 flats

NORTHFIELD MP Gary Sambrook has provided an update on the future of the former King George V pub in Longbridge.

Mr Sambrook contacted Birmingham City Council about the state of the building last year and the owner cleaned up the front.

But, recently, the situation has become increasingly worse again and Mr Sambrook has contacted the enforcement team again.

According to the city council, the current situation is the owner has been granted permission for 13 apartments but, after it received planning approval, a second application was submitted to demolish a single-storey extension and for some internal and external alterations to be made.

The application was submitted in December and is currently awaiting a decision which is expected to be made soon.

The owner has assured the planning department work will start ‘almost immediately’ after consent has been given.

Mr Sambrook added: “The city council has said it would pursue the matter further if the condition of the building isn’t improved once permission has been given.

“This building is iconic to many people across Northfield and it’s incredibly annoying that this beautiful building has been left in this condition for so long.”
