TWO MEMBERS of staff will bid a fond farewell to St Peter’s Catholic First School in Bromsgrove today after more than 60 years of service.

Bridget and Ray Suckling, the school’s cleaners in charge with Ray also doubling as the caretaker, are much-loved by fellow colleagues and the children.

The pair, who have worked under four headteachers, attended the school themselves, as did their two children, six grandchildren and two of their great grandchildren.

Long service runs in the family – Ray’s mum was also the school’s lollipop lady for 25 years.

A school spokesperson said: “Their dedication to St Peter’s over the years has been outstanding from early morning get ups to gritting the playground and paths, snow shovelling and opening Bridget’s Cafe – making tea and toast for staff in the last week of each term.

“The list is endless.

“We will miss them both so much they are the heart and soul of the school and embody everything that St Peter’s stands for.”
