First walking football session at Hagley Playing Fields deemed huge success

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Apr, 2022   0

THE first walking football session at Hagley Playing Fields on April 19 was deemed a huge success with 17 players lacing their boots.

The event was organised by Bromsgrove District and Hagley Parish Councils, with reduced physical contact and limited tackling.

There is also no running, jogging, or heading.

The session saw people from a variety of ages turn out, with the oldest player being 84 years old.

The free hour long sessions are running every Tuesday from 10.30am, and there’s a chance for the players to socialise over refreshments afterwards.

They are open to people of any age, ability, fitness level or gender who haven’t played the beautiful game for a while and wanted to get back into it.

Bromsgrove District Council’s Portfolio-holder for Leisure, Coun Michael Thompson, said: “Exercise is proven to have lots of physical benefits and helps to improve mental health and well-being.

“This Council is committed to getting Bromsgrove active and this latest addition to our programme does just that.”

“With the warmer weather coming what a great reason to get outside and enjoy this great game.”
