A SPECIALIST animal rescue team was deployed in Bromsgrove after reports of a horse falling over and being unable to get up last weekend.

Firefighters from Bromsgrove and Bromyard’s animal rescue team were called out to a farm on Money Lane, Chadwich near Bromsgrove at 3.42 p.m. on Saturday April 22.

When fire crews arrived, George, the 25 year old cob horse who had fallen over in a farm building and was unable to get back to his feet, had been sedated by Jo, a vet from Field Equine Vets to keep him calm.

With the use of specialist equipment carried by the rescue teams, the 550kg horse was helped out of the building and later with the support of a local farmer and his tractor, George was helped back to his feet.

After a little while, George was able to stand up on his own and the support strops helping him were removed.

George was checked over by the veterinarian in attendance and given a clean bill of health, fire crews left the scene at 5.52 p.m.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “More great work from our crews, especially our large animal rescue team.”
