Fire crews tackle blaze at Father's Barn market in Rubery

A FIRE has ripped through a mobile repair shop at a Rubery’s Father’s Barn market yesterday morning (Thursday), just months after an electrical fire devastated the building.

Emergency services were called to the fire on New Road in the early hours amidst reports that M&D Mobile Solutions in Father’s Barn market has sustained fire damage.

A spokesperson speaking on behalf of West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, said: “In the early hours of this morning (May 18), emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a single storey property in New Road.”

Six fire engines (including two from West Midlands Fire Service) responded to the incident and tackled the fire using breathing apparatus and water jets.

“Firefighters then accessed the roof space and adjacent properties to check for fire spread.”

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service is now working with West Mercia Police to determine the cause of the fire.

Police officers are currently at the scene to support this investigation and to ensure the safety of the local community and manage traffic.

Amy’s Floral Design & M&D Mobile Solutions, which sit adjacent to each other, had been recovering from an electrical fault fire in October which destroyed the main market hall and had reopened in the new year.

The businesses were further hit when thieves broke in through a skylight in February this year.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
