Fire at Father's Barn market in Rubery treated as arson

A FIRE which ripped through a mobile repair shop at a Rubery’s Father’s Barn market a fortnight ago is being treated as arson.

Emergency services were called to the fire on New Road at 2am on Friday (May 18) amidst reports that M&D Mobile Solutions in the market had sustained fire damage.

Six fire engines (including two from West Midlands Fire Service) responded to the incident and tackled the fire using breathing apparatus and water jets.

Following an investigation by the fire service, officers are now treating the fire as arson and are appealing for information.

A spokesperson from West Mercia Police said: “An unknown number of offenders broke into the property via a side door and started the fire deliberately.

“Nobody was hurt in the incident.”

Amy’s Floral Design and M&D Mobile Solutions, which sit adjacent to each other, had been recovering from an electrical fault fire in October which destroyed the main market hall and had reopened in the new year.

The businesses were further hit when thieves broke in through a skylight in February this year.

Officers are asking people who saw anyone acting suspiciously at the location during the early hours of 18 May, either on foot or in a vehicle, or have any information about the incident, to contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 40S of 18 May.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on crimestoppers-uk.org or call 0800 555 111.
