BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has earned £358,017 outside his MP’s salary in the last three years.
Mr Javid is the seventh highest ‘outside earning’ MP according to the statistics which show how much Members of Parliament have been paid from December 19, 2019, to recent disclosures.
The data was gleaned and released through ‘Westminster Accounts’ which Sky News teamed up with Tortoise Media to research.
An MP’s basic salary, as of April last year, is £84,144, meaning Mr Javid is earning more than four times his wage from other work.
A spokesperson for Mr Javid told the Standard: “Serving as the Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove is an immense privilege for Sajid and throughout his time in Parliament it has always been his priority.
“It is not unusual for backbench MPs to carry out speaking engagements or other time limited work.”
The highest earner outside their MP salaries was former Prime Minister Theresa May, who has received £2.55million from other work since December 2019.
In second place was Sir Geoffrey Cox who had been paid almost £2.2million.
In third was another former PM, Boris Johnson, who has earned just over £1million between December 2019 and now.
The figures came from the Register of Members’ Financial Interests, the Register of All-Party Parliamentary Groups and the Electoral Commission.
