Feeling festive? Here's 5 Christmassy things to do in Bromsgrove district this weekend

With Christmas now less than four weeks away, here are five festive things to do in Bromsgrove District this weekend.

All Saints’ Church’s Christmas Bazaar

Saturday, December 3

THERE will be a host of activities and stalls at the annual All Saints’ Christmas Bazaar on (Saturday (December 3).

The event, at All Saints’ Church Hall, Burcot Lane from 2pm to 4pm, will feature stalls selling toys and jigsaws, nearly new and vintage clothes, jewellery, fancy goods, hand-made items, books, home-made cakes and Christmas items.

There will also be a white elephant stall, a tombola and prize giving games.

Avoncroft Museum – Candlelit Christmas

Saturday, December 3

THIS truly romantically festive event takes visitors back to Christmases through different eras, offering a host of seasonal entertainment along the way – from choirs singing carols, brass bands and hand bell-ringers to jazz and organ musicians.

There will also be a stilt-walking fire performer, a magic lantern show, Morris dancing and, of course, an appearance by Father Christmas during the event, which runs from 7pm to 10pm.

Other attractions include a traditional Christmas Fayre in the Guesten Hall the chance to have a go wreath-making and the opportunity to see glass baubles being blown in the Blacksmith’s Forge.

And there will be seasonal treats, such as mulled cider, mulled wine, mince pies, chestnuts, a hog roast and sweets from the vintage sweet shop.

Tickets are £8 for adults and £5 for children with reduced rates for Avoncroft members.

Barnt Green village – Christmas lights switch-on

Friday, December 2

On Friday (December 2), there will be a host of festive fun from 4.30pm at Millennium Park, ahead of the lights switch on.

As well as the shops opening late, there will also be a competition to find Santa and his tree decorations from the Post Office, tea shop, or Oasis Flowers and Balloons.

There will be mulled wine, mince pies and other festive food and drink available and the winners of the St Andrew’s CE First School Christmas lights competition – sponsored by CALA Homes – will be revealed.

Fairbourne Dodders’ – Alice in Panto Land

 Wednesday (Nov 30) to Saturday (Dec 3)

THERE will be plenty of festive fun at the Fairbourne Dodders’ annual pantomime which will take place at Dodford Village Hall.

The stagings of Alice in Panto Land begin tonight (Wednesday) and run until Saturday. Shows start at 7.30pm each night with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.

There will be sweets on sale for youngsters and a licensed bar for the adults.

Jigsaw Players’  – Aladdin – The Trinity Centre

Friday (Dec 2) to Sunday (Dec 4) and Dec 9-10

THIS frolicking, laugh-a-minute, all-singing, all-dancing roller coaster ride through Panto Land boasts a host of colourful characters.

It tells the story of ‘street rat’ Aladdin who meets Princess Jasmine while she is ‘slumming it’ in Peking Market, leading to love at first sight.

Aladdin dreams of becoming rich enough to woo Princess Jasmine, his mysterious, long forgotten, Uncle Abanazar turns up promising all the treasures in the Universe – if Aladdin can rescue a dusty old lamp.

Shows start at 7pm on the Fridays and Saturdays, with matinees on the two Saturdays at 1.30pm. The Sunday shows start at 4pm.
