BROMSGROVE Women’s 1st Hockey Team have gained promotion for the fourth consecutive time since 2019, making them one of the fastest-rising teams in the Midlands.

The women won 19 out of the 22 games played in the Midlands’ South West Division 1 league this season and the squad will progress to the ‘Premier League’ for their 2023-24 campaign.

Their current league season ended on April 1 with the Ladies 1st XI final game played at their home pitch in Aston Fields.

The day was hailed ‘Super Saturday’ and drew in more than 200 supporters enjoying the fanfare with a barbecue and music adding to the festivities.

Ladies coach Pete Bryant said: “I’m extremely proud of the ladies who’ve shown dedication and commitment to their training and delivered outstanding results each Saturday.

“Back-to-back promotions are a coach’s dream and this is one for the club’s history books.”

As well as the Women’s success, Bromsgrove’s Men’s 2nd XI also gained promotion and will start next season in the Midlands Division 5 West league, closing the gap with their Men’s 1st XI who finished mid-table, in Midlands Division 3 West where they will stay next year.

The club also ran a successful mixed team this past season which progressed to Round 2 of the EH National Cup Competition before suffering defeat against Leek back in February.

Summer activities at Bromsgrove Hockey Club

Bromsgrove Hockey Club fields a total of five women’s teams and five men’s teams and are looking to grow this with a 6th development team for the 2023-24 season starting in September.

They will be running a six-week Back to Hockey programme for novices from May 25, and also offer social six-a-side gameplay at their venue on St Godwald’s Road, beginning evenings from May 15.

Meanwhile, the club’s Junior Academy goes from strength-to-strength, with over 100 youngsters taking part in sessions every Sunday and England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation in the works.

Junior Hockey summer sessions start this Sunday, April 30, for children aged from five to ten years and summer training programmes will be available for youngsters aged 11 to 13 years.
