ARTRIX will next week transfer to Bromsgrove Community Arts (BCA) which will run the venue with a new programme of events.

The short-term agreement starts on Monday, April 1, and will be in place until the end of the year after the operating agreement was finalised, agreed and signed this week.

It follows Artrix being operated by The Core theatre in Solihull for the past few months which had to close its main auditorium due to the present of RAAC concrete.

The venue will be staffed completely by volunteers and theatre companies, local groups and businesses have been busy booking to hire spaces in the arts centre over the previous few months.

On the opening night and Thursday, April 3 and 4, there will be the screening of The Shamrock Spitfire which was produced by Nigel Davey from Cofton Hackett and John Dawson from Hanbury and was filmed in Worcestershire.

It centres on Brendan Finucane who, dreaming of becoming a flyer, becomes one of the first to enlist into the Royal Air Force in 1938 and becomes the youngest Wing Commander.

On Wednesday, to add to the atmosphere, Vintage Class will perform songs from the 1940s for guests.

On Friday night, the 178 Comedy Club is guaranteed to bring plenty of laugh out loud moments with five great acts taking to the stage.

Other highlights in April and May include tribute acts and shows, such as ‘Dolly Parton and Friends’, Darkside – The Pink Floyd Show and The Simon and Garfunkel Story.

And there will be theatre, dance and more.

BCA Chair Kyle Daisley said: “I’m thrilled we got the agreement over the line and signed.

“This is a huge achievement and I would like to personally thank everyone for their hard work and dedication.

“With the support of the local community we can make Artrix a success and keep it open.

“I urge everyone to visit the website and book tickets for a show.”

Tickets can be booked on the website at artrixbromsgrove.co.uk and the box office will be open for in-person sales (times to be confirmed).

An agreement has also been reached to make car parking at the venue free for those visiting the venue – people can just turn up and park with no ticket required.
