Joy and relief as students across Bromsgrove and Rubery get their GCSE results

Bromsgrove Editorial 25th Aug, 2022 Updated: 26th Aug, 2022   0

THE WAIT was finally over for GCSE students across Bromsgrove, Rubery, Droitwich and the rest of the country today when they received their results and got to see if all their hard work had paid off.

Pupils discovered if they had got the grades they needed to move onto sixth-form, college, other training or employment.

These were the first exams held for three years because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the pass rate across the country, as predicted prior to results day, had fallen compared to last year but was higher than 2019.

North Bromsgrove High School

Students at North Bromsgrove High School had their strongest set of results yet, with 82 per cent achieving a grade 4 in both maths and English.

High fliers included Theo Mugglestone, Sam Taylor, Anaya Pye, Emily Cook and Maisy Davies who were among the top ten per cent in the country for their results.

Headteacher Nick Gibson said the results were further proof of North’s ongoing success in providing an education which enabled students to pursue their highest goals and aspirations.

Meanwhile, it was all smiles on results day as students from South Bromsgrove High achieved a ‘truly outstanding’ crop of GCSE results.

Over three-quarters of students achieved a grade 4 in both English and maths, and almost a quarter of students were awarded a grade 7 – the equivalent to an A grade in those two key subjects.

Finlay Creed was awarded grade 9 in each of the nine subjects that he took, while Faith Taylor, Nina Rao, Jack Wright, Sophie Brailsford and Lucy Cashmore each achieved eight grade 9s.

Droitwich Spa High School

Relieved sighs and happy faces were seen at Droitwich Spa High School after the year 11 students received their GCSE results.

Natalie Waters, the headteacher at Droitwich Spa High School said: “The current generation has had challenges unknown to any of their predecessors.

“We are thrilled that so many of our students have had the resilience and determination to recover from the impact that Covid has had on their lives.”

Bromsgrove School

Bromsgrove School announced record-breaking results, with half of all GCSE grades achieved being grade 8 or 9.

In addition, the most common result achieved by students was a grade 9 and 65 per cent of entries were awarded at least a grade 7.

Headmaster Michael Punt said: “For each individual student, every final grade represents considerable personal achievement given the period of uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Their academic successes and mature approach should reassure them that they are ready for the challenges and opportunities which lie ahead.

“We wish them every future success and happiness and hope they will stay in touch with us.”
