THE ORGANISATION which will run Bromsgrove’s new leisure sports and leisure centre has taken over the running of the Dolphin Centre.
Everyone Active took over yesterday (Friday) after agreeing the 21-year contract to deliver leisure services in the town.
The brand new £13.7million sports and leisure centre, which The Standard revealed would open on November 1, has been built by Morgan Sindall.
It will form part of the over £100million regeneration project to build a Better Bromsgrove.
It will also help revitalise Bromsgrove to create an attractive and vibrant centre at the heart of the thriving market town.
Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre will offer an extensive range of activities to get the local community active.
The site will include a climbing centre with 15 different routes, one of the largest climbing facilities in the Midlands.
The fitness suite will host over 100 exercise stations, double the size of the current Dolphin Centre gym.
The new centre will also benefit from three group exercise studios that will deliver a wide range of classes for the local community.
There will also be a six lane 25metre pool and learner pool with moveable floor, spa facilities including a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and treatment rooms.
Coun Peter Whittaker, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: “The handing over of the Dolphin Centre really marks the end of an era.
“It has served us well over the last few decades but now it is time to call it a day.
“We are very excited about Everyone Active taking the reins as part of this planned move to the new leisure centre.”
Neil Cowdrey, Everyone Active’s contract manager said: “We are delighted to have officially taken over the management of the Dolphin Centre. As the longest established leisure operator in the UK, we are dedicated to providing extensive leisure opportunities in the areas we operate in and we are proud to support the Council’s Better Bromsgrove regeneration project.
“The brand new Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre will be a fantastic facility for the community to enjoy and we are looking forward to supporting the local community on their journey to leading healthier, more active lifestyles.”
Everyone Active will be honouring all current members’ prices until March 2018.
All existing staff are also due to be retained by Everyone Active.
