Ellie's London Marathon challenge for wheelchair support charity

Bromsgrove Editorial 14th Mar, 2024   0

A BROMSGROVE woman will be taking on the biggest running challenge of her life to raise funds for a charity who provides wheelchairs to youngsters and adults in need.

Ellie Farr, 29, from Marlbrook will be running the London Marathon on April 21 for Whizz Kidz, a leading charity for young wheelchair users.

The Bromsgrove runner began her fitness journey two years ago in a 5k Race for Life after losing her grandfather to bowel cancer.

Now she is using her running to highlight the need of over 75,000 young people across the UK who require a wheelchair to be mobile.

To prepare, Ellie has been running in minus temperatures, whilst battling wind, rain and fortunately a little bit of sun across Bromsgrove, the Lickey Hills and further afield.

She told the Standard: “I am taking on my biggest fitness challenge so far. This run will both be mentally and physically challenging for me but I know it’s for such a worthwhile cause.

“Whizz Kidz is a fantastic charity helping young children and adults get the right equipment for their disabilities. The thought of so many people not having access to the right equipment is awful.”

The charity helps to improve the lives of people up to age of 25 by offering equipment, support, and confidence building exercises to empower them to take an active role in society – creating a more open and accessible world.

“I would be so grateful for your support and any donations you could spare. Whether that be just £1 so I can carry with me the spirit of Bromsgrove.”

“It all goes towards improving wheelchair access for those who desperately need it,” added Ellie.

Ellie had raised £775 towards her goal of £1,900, at the time we went to press. You can keep up to date with her training and fundraiser through her JustGiving page.
