Election time for Waseley Hills school student council

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Mar, 2023   0

STUDENTS at Waseley Hills High School have organised and held elections for the school’s newly-established student council.

The polls have led to the appointment of a diverse council of 36 students – one from each tutor group – who will be tasked with empowering student voices across the school.

Before the vote and the count, students wishing to be elected presented their suitability and gave the aspirations they would bring if they were successful.

Pupils called for new clubs, organisation of school trips, the widening of extracurricular activities, and improved communication measures within form groups as part of their election campaigns.

The student council will host weekly meetings, plan student surveys, house votes on new schemes and create task force teams to develop and represent school values.

Damian Belshaw, Waseley Hills High School principal, said it was the start of an exciting new tradition which would inspire many pupils to further the collective ‘KASE’ – knowledge, attributes, skills and experiences – vision.

“I am so proud of the bright and ambitious students at our school for organising the student council and running the elections.

“It truly shows how much they care about the school’s vision and serving – making a positive change for their peers.

“I am confident the council will do a fantastic job at continuing to engage with their peers so they are able to maximise their impact and bolster their voices.”
