Elderly Rubery couple scammed out of 'large sum' of cash by rogue trader

AN ELDERLY Rubery couple have been scammed out of a ‘large sum’ of cash by a rogue trader.

On March 12, a man approached a property on St Chads Road and stated the occupant’s gutters needed cleaning.

They agreed on a price, and the man then stated further work needed doing which the victims – an elderly couple – were charged a large sum of money for.

Then, on March 15, the male victim went to the bank to withdraw a further sum of money for the man, when concerns were raised by the bank.

The suspect was tall, around 30 years old, white and of medium build. He had short mousey/blond hair, spoke with a local Birmingham accent and was believed to be travelling in a small Citroen van.

PC Kulwinder Singh of West Mercia Police, said officers wanted to speak to anyone who saw what happened or any other people who have had similar offers of work for their homes.

He said if anyone needed work doing, they should first ask friends or neighbours to recommend a reputable trader who had done work for them or look for a local trade directory.

Residents can also ask the trader for the names of people they have completed work for, so they can check on the quality and cost of the work and it is wise to get at least three quotes.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call West Mercia Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
