A DRIVER who seriously injured two pedestrians when he crashed his car in Northfield has been jailed for two years and eight months.

Jason Walker was sentenced after the man and woman, who were both in their 60s, were struck by a black Mercedes near the junction of Frankley Beeches Road, and Sir Herbert Austin Way, just before 1pm on December 16, 2024.

The pair suffered serious injuries.

Walker, of Ambleside, Bartley Green, Birmingham, was arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

An investigation by West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) found that Walker had been driving between 49mph and 56mph moments before he crashed into the man and woman, almost double the 30mph speed limit.

The 54-year-old pleaded guilty and was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court for two years and eight months.

Sgt Paul Hughes, from the SCIU, said: “Walker showed complete disregard for the safety of others.

“His actions demonstrated a shocking lack of care and responsibility.

“This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of dangerous driving. One reckless decision behind the wheel can destroy lives forever.”
