POLICE helped a driver get out of his car in Hollywood this morning when the vehicle became stranded in a flooded ford.

The man had driven into the ford in Houndsfield Lane but was unable to get through to the other side because of rising water levels caused by the deluges of the last few days.

Police used a ‘throw line’ to get him safely to dry land and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called into action at 7.41am.

A crew from Redditch Fire Station and the water first responders managed to retrieve the vehicle and the driver was able to continue on his journey by 8.28am.

Following the incident, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service have reminded people not to drive through floodwater and to take notice of any signs or water level indicators in place.

The service says it only takes six inches of water before a driver can lose control of a small vehicle and, athough tempting, flooding was not the time for ‘sight seeing’.
