A MOTORIST who was caught in Hopwood twice the drink-drive limit has been jailed for eight weeks and disqualified from driving for four years.
He was stopped by officers from Alvechurch and Wythall Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) on the A441 around 1am on Saturday morning and was found to have been already disqualified from driving and using a vehicle without insurance.
He appeared in court on Monday where he also had to pay £128 costs and other charges.
We reported last week how more than 50 drink and drug drivers had been caught in the first week of West Mercia Police’s annual pre-Christmas and new year campaign.
Anyone caught over the drink or drug-drive limit faces at least a 12-month driving ban, an unlimited fine and a potential prison sentence of up to six months.
Figures indicate that over the past three years 43 people have died and 215 have been seriously injured in West Mercia following collisions where drink or drugs were recorded as a contributory factor.
