A NEW Greggs store where unsold items are re-distributed and sold at discounted prices will be opening in Frankley on Wednesday (May 24).
The new Greggs Outlet store opening on Arden Road will be one of roughly 30 stores across the UK offering big reductions on day-old products to people managing a tight budget.
To reduce food waste and provide affordable food to areas of social deprivation, Greggs collects unsold items from stores and surplus items from production sites and redistributes them to its outlet stores to be sold the next day at a discount.
Greggs opened 10 new outlet stores in 2022 and hopes to have 50 by 2025.
The sausage roll pioneers have also pledged to donate a portion of the profits generated by the discount stores to the Greggs Foundation to be shared among soup kitchens, food banks and community groups across the UK.
