THE region’s police chief constable – Pippa Mills – has shared a photo shaking hands with her interim replacement as she departs on leave before starting her new position with the Met Police.

West Mercia Police’s Al Murray will serve as interim chief as the force looks to find Pippa Mills’ permanent replacement.

Pippa Mills announced her ‘bittersweet’ departure from West Mercia Police in August after becoming the forces first female chief in September 2021.

She will now take up the role of assistant commissioner with the Metropolitan Police.

On Friday, October 6 a video was posted on social media of her final time leaving the forces headquarters in Hindlip, Worcester where her colleagues lined up to bid her farewell.

The police chief can be seen stroking force dogs and chatting with her colleagues as she says goodbye.

Upon announcing her departure, Pippa Mills said: β€œIt has been an incredible privilege to serve the communities of the three beautiful counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.

“Whilst I am, of course, pleased with the opportunity it is bittersweet as I am leaving an incredible force, made of up of officers, staff and volunteers that are passionate and dedicated to delivering a quality policing service and protecting people from harm.”
