Dedicated Bromsgrove and District Football League member Colin Mortiboys lands FA award

A DEDICATED Bromsgrove and District Football League member has received a top accolade in recognition of his service to grassroots football.

Colin Mortiboys, the league’s referee’s secretary, was honoured as Volunteer of the Year by the Worcestershire FA in the Grassroots Football Awards 2018.

The annual awards recognise and celebrate the work of individuals and groups who instill The FA’s PRIDE (progressive, respectful, inclusive, determination and excellent) values as well as making a positive difference in their club, league or community.

Mr Mortiboys, who also volunteers with two other junior leagues across the county, said he was overwhelmed and it was nice to be recognised.

“However, it’s not just a personal award as I could not be a decent volunteer without the support of my family or members from clubs across the area.

“This is now my 35th year as a volunteer and I have never stopped learning because football has grown and diversified so much during that time.”

Mr Mortiboys will receive his accolade at an awards ceremony in November at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

The FA will select a national Volunteer of the Year from the county winners and they will be announced on August 5.
