AROUND 150 people gathered on the ‘village green’ off Ley Hill in Northfield this evening to sing Christmas carols.

It featured the choir from the 7th Day Adventist Church which sang classics, including Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All ye Faithful.

Also in attendance were local councillors Bruce and John Lines and Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street.

He congratulated the organisers and added: “The most important thing is that – after a really difficult year – the community came together and celebrated.

“It was a lovely atmosphere and having the choir here helped raise all our singing standards.

“But it’s the community spirit created by us coming together which is the special thing.”

Afterwards, refreshments were served at Holloway Hall and Father Christmas also made an appearance.
