A TOTAL of 90 works went on display at Bromsgrove School’s Hospitality Suite on Friday and Saturday as part of The Creative Art Showcase’s (CAS) annual exhibition.

The pieces, for The Art from the Heart event, were chosen from 130 submitted from across the country, including Manchester, London and Cheltenham, as well as Bromsgrove and Droitwich.

The event was officially opened by Town Crier Kevin Ward and Bromsgrove District Council Chairman, Coun Sam Ammar.

She said: “I’m always so blown away when I see the passion which goes into projects like this.

“It is always a moment of pride to open events like this.

“We are so fortunate in Bromsgrove and I’d like to thank all the volunteers involved in making it happen.”

The exhibition was co-curated by Ann-Marie Hulley and Lorraine Wright.

They thanked all the volunteers involved in the project and Willowbrook Garden Centre for its support.

Among the contributors were groups of women who took up art during the Covid pandemic.

Ann-Marie said: “They would go for their daily walk, see something and then create a piece of art based upon it.”

Providing art for the community

Cash raised from Art from the Heart will go towards helping CAS provide artistic opportunities in the Bromsgrove community for those who otherwise would not have the chance to be creative. Among them are groups of people with Parkinson’s and young people.

There has been a lot less art going on since Covid as groups, forced to take breaks during the lockdowns, struggled to get back up-and-running again.

Schools have also been focusing more on academic subjects in a bid to get pupils up to speed because of the disruption caused to education.

Art from the Heart was also supported by local organisations including Primrose Hospice, Bromsgrove Society, Bromsgrove Arts Alive, Bromsgrove Festival, The Norton Museum and more.

And it featured a piece of community art where people could dip hearts in paint and then put them on a larger piece to make a collage. That was sponsored by Waseley Hills Crematorium and will be displayed there when it is complette.

There was also a competition for young creators – 50 entries were submitted for that from children and young people aged between four and 15.

There were winners and runners-up in five different categories which all went on display at the exhibit.
