Crowdfunding drive for new digital cinema equipment at Fairfield Flicks

A CROWDFUNDING drive to pay for new digital cinema projection equipment so the latest films can be screened at Fairfield Village Hall in Bromsgrove is a third towards its target, writes Zara Parkes.

A total of £12,100 has already been collected and another £23,000 is needed for the Fairfield Flicks programme.

The instillation of a Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) projector will allow Fairfield Flicks to show a wider selection of films, including new movie releases.

As well as the screenings, events by the group are also aimed at reducing loneliness and social isolation experienced by the older generation and improving the community’s mental and social wellbeing.

Since the closure of Bromsgrove’s Artrix in 2020, Fairfield Flicks has been the only programme regularly screening movies in Bromsgrove district.

Those behind the campaign say good progress is being made but more help is needed.

Since opening, Fairfield Flicks has streamed 23 movies with another seven scheduled for 2023.

Among the films shown last year were ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and ‘Mrs Harris Goes to Paris’.

In addition to this, six gigs have been hosted with five more planned for this year.

Fairfield Flicks has used cinematic and live art to bring people together, creating a stronger, more vibrant community.

The scheme not only brings people together, it also provides a purposeful volunteering activity – as many volunteers are retired it is helping them live independent active lives.

People have said the events being held in a village makes them feel safer than in towns and cities.

A more diverse programme will encourage more people to volunteer, which has seen friendships made and developed.
