A CROWD-FUNDING campaign has been launched to raise £10,000 for a new roof for Catshill Village Hall which has served the local community for 130 years.
Built in 1893, the building has been there for people and groups to use but now the roof is in a poor state of disrepair.
The hall has struggled to bounce back from Covid despite tenacious efforts to increase the number of bookings and spread the word that the building is open.
The leaky roof has damaged electrics and caused further damage to the hall.
Thanks to funding from Catshill and North Marlbrook Parish Council, the front elevation could be replaced but when work began it was discovered the back elevation also needs the same work.
Phil Love, chair of Catshill Village Hall, said: “Whilst the hall was closed for the front elevation it has undergone a facelift carried out free of charge by our volunteers and it now looks amazing.
“But we desperately need to raise the funds, to complete the second half.
“We have managed to reopen to hirers but we are calling on the generosity of the community to help us preserve this beautiful building for years to come.”
The hall currently hosts Catshill WI, the local Slimming World group, a friendship club. Silly Sprouts stay and play and Stars Dance Academy.
But the hall is available during plenty more times when other local groups, clubs and societies could use it.
