Crowd braves icy winds and snow at Rubery's Christmas lights switch-on

A SMALL but tenacious crowd gathered in Rubery on Saturday for the annual Christmas lights switch-on, braving freezing temperatures, icy winds and snow.

Darcie Palmer and Betty Groves pushed the plunger and entertainment was provided by the St James’ School Choir, along with snow sisters Charley Thompson and Azriah Wood from Sapphire Entertainment Midlands.

Street Theatre included a fairy and Christmas pudding walkabout, Twistina and Twistifa with their balloons and barrel organ and Steve Kaos showcasing his circus skills.

The switch-on was broadcast live on the Bromsgrove Standard Facebook page here.

The popular Primrose Hospice Tree of Lights switch-on and blessing by Rev Claire Turner and Rev Hamilton also took place.
