RESIDENTS across Worcestershire have been using their Minor Injury Units (MIUs) more than ever, according to the latest figures.
The Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs four of the county’s MIUs, said in total more than 3,000 people had attended the units in Bromsgrove, Evesham, Malvern and Tenbury in the first month of the year.
There is also a 24 hour Minor Injuries Unit in Kidderminster run by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust.
Michelle Clarke, Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust’s director of nursing, said: “There has been a real push both locally and nationally to encourage people to use the options available and not to attend A&E departments inappropriately.
“Minor Injury Units have trained nurses who have the knowledge and skills to deal with a range of minor injuries so we are continuing to encourage people to make use of them when appropriate to do so.”
Naomi Morgan, who recently visited Malvern MIU, said: “When I visited the department there was hardly any wait and in little over an hour I was triaged, my leg was x-rayed and put in a cast.”
