County council relaunches renewable energy purchase scheme

Bromsgrove Editorial 8th Jul, 2024   0

A SCHEME has relaunched in Worcestershire to help residents make the switch to clean energy.

The Solar Together programme offers residents, community buildings and small or medium sized businesses the opportunity to invest in renewables, through a group-buying scheme for solar panels and battery storage.

The scheme was dubbed a success last year, with 504 residents taking the opportunity to install solar energy through this scheme, which will result in a saving of over 9,000 tones of carbon over the typical 25-year lifespan of solar panels.

The group-buying scheme offers solar panels with optional battery storage and EV charge points, as well as retrofit battery storage for anyone who has already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate as well as increase their independence from the grid.

Residents and businesses are able to register their interest until Friday, August 9.

There will then be an auction for pre-approved installers to submit their bids for the work, with notifications sent out to people detailing the cost and specification of the work.

It’s then up to individuals if they want to go-ahead, there’s no obligation to continue with the installation.

Worcestershire County Council is working with local district councils and iChoosr to offer the Solar Together group-buying scheme.

This innovative scheme builds on four years of highly successful Solar Together programme run across the UK.

To date Solar Together has delivered over 14,500 installations and over 307,000 tonnes of avoided lifetime carbon emissions.
