THE COUNTDOWN has started for this year’s Bromsgrove Christmas lights switch-on which takes place on the High Street next Saturday, November 20.
The festivities will kick off with food and music at BirdBox, including street theatre entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas.
Performances run from 1pm to 5pm, including a fairy, Christmas pudding, fairy Godmother and the Jack Frost Duo.
Music and food, including burgers, pizza, waffles, jerk chicken, candy floss and more, is available from 12pm to 6pm.
The Santa sleigh with the Round Table helpers will be there at 4.30pm alongside the main lights switch-on.
It will be a welcome return for the event after last year’s had to be cancelled because of the pandemic and Government restrictions.
Unlike other years, there will be no central stage and the countdown, led by Bromsgrove District Council chairman Coun Rod Laight will be done at BirdBox.
Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for leisure, Coun Phil Thomas, said:
“The switch-on event was greatly missed by everyone last year so I’m glad that we’ve been able to put Covid safe measures in place to bring it back for 2021.
“Although it might not be quite the same format as we’ve been used to, it is guaranteed to be a fun, family-friendly event to welcome the start of the festive season.”
This event is supported by The Bromsgrove Indie Club.
Bromsgrove Christmas Market
The Christmas Markets will also return from 9am to 4pm next Friday and between 10am and 6pm next Saturday at the top end of the High Street, near Argos.

On Saturday a steel drummer and Vintage Class Singers will take to the stage.
A simultaneous Christmas lights switch-on countdown will take place at the markets.
The Christmas Markets are running in conjunction with Bromsgrove District Council Better Markets Team and raise funds for the Friends of St John’s.
The charity raises funds to support the ongoing restoration and maintenance costs at Bromsgrove’s historic church building.
Event Organiser Jo Slade said “We are thrilled to be hosting the Christmas Markets in Bromsgrove again this year.
“I do hope that lots of residents will visit the Markets throughout the two days and support the local traders and enjoy the entertainment.”
