Councillors ask for more cash to be spent on Bromsgrove's bus shelters

IT HAS been revealed that Bromsgrove District Council spends £2,000 per year on maintaining its 44 bus shelters.

But the Liberal Democrats say more cash needs to be invested in maintaining the town’s neglected bus shelters.

Lib Dem leader Coun Rob Hunter said: “£2,000 per year is simply not good enough.

“I know our council colleagues are working incredibly hard to look after our local environment but the fact of the matter is, the Conservatives are simply not putting enough money into our bus shelters and that’s why we see so many in poor condition.”

Across the town some of the bus shelters are ageing badly and have missing or broken panels.

Coun Hunter added: “We should be investing in our public transport infrastructure to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and get the bus or train instead.”

Council leader, Coun Karen May, says a full review of the bus shelters will take place this autumn.

“If more money is required we will bid for it,” she said.

“We have already used budget underspend to replace two old bus shelters which had been badly damaged in the last 12 months.

“But a further review will take place soon.”
