THE CHAIRMAN of the council visited Bromsgrove and District Indoor Bowls Club to help members celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Coun Sam Ammar was delighted and impressed not only with the venue but also the fact it was within her ward.

The celebration of the club, which is in Austin Road, Charford, brought almost 100 members together for two fun bowling sessions and a buffet lunch.

Friends and families all enjoyed the day bowling together.

The membership of around 400 consists of juniors right through to those in their 90s who still bowl.

The game is all suitable for all ages, standards and abilities, including those with disabilities. Members play friendly leagues, matches and competitively in club, county and national competitions, so really does welcome all to go along and see what is on offer.

The club said it was grateful to Bromsgrove District Council for its continued support of the centre – one of two in Worcestershire.

Anyone, of any age, is welcome to go along and try out bowls for a small rink fee and free coaching to show the basics of the game.

Suitable footwear and bowls provided free of charge.

Following her visit, Coun Ammar said it was a privilege to visit and meet the members, including some of the founding ones.

“I am committed to continuing the tradition of supporting this wonderful sporting asset in our district.

“The club, which is run by dedicated volunteers, boasts one lane specifically for Bromsgrove residents who do not have membership.

“It is widely regarded as one of the top bowls clubs in the West Midlands and is a source of pride for our community.

“I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the club, and I am excited to join other councillors for a game next year.

“It is important to raise awareness about this club and the social and physical benefits it provides to people of all ages.

“Here’s to another 30 years of success for the Bromsgrove and District Indoor Bowls Club.”
