Council announces changes to bin times across Bromsgrove district next week 'to protect workers from heatwave'

REFUSE collectors across Bromsgrove district will be starting their rounds an hour earlier from Monday, July 18, because of the severe heatwave weather warning.

Bromsgrove District Council has requested its workers to collect the bins from 6am each day to protect them from operating during the hottest times of the day.

The collection order may also be altered.

Residents are being urged to have their bins out earlier on the kerbside – preferably the night before (if they do not usually do that already) to avoid missed collections.

People reading this are also urged to let their neighbours know – especially if they are not online.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “The extra hour will allow our crews to do more work during the cooler part of the day, as their work is particularly physical, and starting earlier will help us ensure their safety during this extreme warm weather.

“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

Currently in Bromsgrove district, the Met Office is forecasting temperatures could reach 33°C on Monday afternoon and 34°C.
